Gloria @ 29 : The Point Is to Be Here

Gloria @ 29 : The Point Is to Be Here

I turned another year older and instead of feeling the usual pressure to have some grand revelation or life-changing epiphany, I found myself thinking about something much simpler: I'm here. Right now. Existing. And somehow, that feels like enough.

There's this thing that happens as you get older. You start to notice patterns in yourself and in the people around you. You see how much energy gets spent on becoming, achieving, impressing, and proving. We're all so busy trying to get somewhere that we sometimes forget we're already somewhere. We're already living. We're already here.

We’re Always Trying to Get Somewhere

As we get older, it’s very easy to feel like we should be somewhere by now. We should have figured it out. We should be doing better. We should have something impressive to show for ourselves.

There is always something to achieve, fix, improve or prove. And sometimes we get so busy becoming the person we think we should be that we forget to actually be the person we are.

We are already here. Living. Learning. Loving. Making mistakes. Starting again. Laughing at ourselves. 😂 Maybe that deserves a little more attention.

How Do You Feel About Your Own Life

Here's what I've come to understand: what matters most is how you feel about yourself when you're alone with your own life. Not when you're performing for an audience, not when you're trying to prove something, but when it's just you and your existence. How do you feel then?

This is the real measure, I think. Not whether you've accomplished enough or whether you're impressive enough or whether you've figured it all out. But whether you can sit with yourself and feel okay. Whether you can look at your life and feel present in it, rather than constantly reaching past it toward something else.

Self-worth isn't something you build by collecting achievements. It's something you cultivate by actually being here, by actually noticing your own life as it's happening. It's the quiet confidence that comes from trusting yourself, from knowing that your existence has value simply because you exist.

This doesn't mean you stop creating or working toward things. It just means you do it from a different place. You do it because you want to, because something in you wants to make or build or share something. Not because you're trying to prove that you deserve to be here.

The Gift of Presence

Presence is underrated. We talk about mindfulness and being in the moment like it's some kind of wellness trend, but really it's just about actually experiencing your life. It's about noticing that you're here, that you're learning, that you're becoming, that you're loving and creating and experiencing.

When you're present, you notice things. You notice the way light comes through a window. You notice a conversation with a friend that actually matters. You notice the small moment of satisfaction when you finish something you've been working on. You notice that you're alive.

The tragedy is how easy it is to miss this. To spend so much time thinking about where you're going that you forget to notice where you are. To be so focused on the future version of yourself that you neglect the present one. To be so busy proving your worth that you never actually feel it.

I think about all the time I've spent worrying about whether I was doing enough, being enough, becoming enough. And I think about all the moments I missed while I was worried. All the small, ordinary, beautiful moments that were happening right in front of me while I was looking somewhere else.

What We Carry and What We Share

But here's the thing about being here, about being present: it's not just about receiving your own life. It's also about what you have to give.

Each of us carries something. An idea, a story, a skill, a way of seeing the world, something we can make or share. Maybe it's a way you listen to people that makes them feel heard. Maybe it's something you create:art, writing, music, food, conversation. Maybe it's the way you show up for people you love. Maybe it's a perspective you have that's uniquely yours.

Creating and allowing those gifts to meet the world is part of what connects us. It's part of what makes existence feel meaningful. Not because you're trying to be impressive or prove something, but because you're sharing something that's genuinely yours.

This is where self-expression comes in. Not as performance, but as offering. When you share what you've been given to create, whether that's something tangible or just the way you move through the world, you're saying something true. You're saying: this is what I see, this is what I feel, this is what I have to offer.

And that matters. Not because it will make you famous or successful or impressive. But because it connects you to other people. It says: I was here, I felt something, I made something, I noticed something. And maybe you'll notice it too.

A Quiet Birthday Thought

So here I am, another year older, and I'm not trying to have it all figured out. I'm not trying to be impressive or prove that I deserve to be here. I'm just trying to be here. To actually feel my own life. To notice it. To be present enough to experience it.

I think a meaningful life isn't only about what we accomplish or what we create or what we leave behind. It's about being present enough to feel our own lives while we're living them. It's about trusting ourselves enough to share what we've been given to create, even if it's imperfect or small or just for a few people.

It's about understanding that the point isn't to get somewhere else. The point is to be here. Now. Alive. Noticing. Creating. Loving. Becoming. And brave enough to let other people see us doing it.

That's what I'm learning as I get older. That's what this birthday feels like. Not a milestone to prove something, but a moment to remember: I'm here. And that's enough. Glo
